Biohof Hausmann is a biocyclic vegan farm in Saxony, Germany, operated by Daniel Hausmann. The farm produces a wide range of seasonal vegetables and fruits through strictly plant-based organic agriculture. Its development is closely linked to Daniel Hausmann’s personal decision to rethink conventional farming structures and to establish a production system that functions without animal exploitation.
History & Conversion
Biohof Hausmann is a family farm that was traditionally managed with livestock. The grassland was grazed by cattle, and animal husbandry formed an integral part of the farm’s operation.
When Daniel Hausmann took over the farm from his father in 2014, he initiated a fundamental transformation. The farm was converted to organic agriculture, and at the same time Daniel made the deliberate decision to end cattle farming entirely. Rather than maintaining livestock within an organic system, he chose to develop the farm consciously as a vegan organic operation.
This step marked a clear generational and philosophical shift: Daniel Hausmann questioned the necessity of animals in agriculture and became convinced that fertile soils and economically viable farming can be achieved through plant-based nutrient cycles alone. Since then, the farm has been managed consistently according to vegan organic principles.
Farming Philosophy & Practices
Under Daniel Hausmann’s management, Biohof Hausmann relies on regenerative soil-building practices such as diverse crop rotations, green manures, mulching, and composted plant materials. All inputs of animal origin are excluded.
The focus lies on creating resilient agro-ecosystems, increasing soil organic matter, and fostering biodiversity — demonstrating that bio-vegan agriculture is not only ethically consistent but also agronomically sound.
