Lincelam Bioboerderij is a small organic vegetable and fruit farm in West Flanders, Belgium, operated by Bert Samyn and his team. The farm cultivates a wide diversity of vegetables and herbs using exclusively plant-based organic methods. Known locally as a pioneer of vegan organic farming, Lincelam avoids all inputs of animal origin and is currently preparing for certification according to the Biocyclic Vegan Standard, underlining its long-standing commitment to plant-only, regenerative agriculture.
History & Development
Lincelam was established by Bert Samyn with the clear intention of practising organic farming without animal exploitation. From the outset, the farm was developed according to vegan cultivation principles, deliberately excluding livestock farming and the use of animal-derived fertilisers.
Over the years, Lincelam has become a reference point for vegan organic agriculture in Belgium, contributing to knowledge exchange and inspiring other farmers interested in plant-based organic systems. The current preparation for biocyclic-vegan certification represents a formalisation of practices that have already been implemented consistently on the farm.
Farming Philosophy & Practices
At the core of Lincelam’s farming philosophy is the belief that fertile soils, healthy crops and resilient ecosystems can be achieved through plant-based nutrient cycles alone. Soil fertility is maintained through crop rotation, green manures, mulching and other plant-derived inputs adapted to small-scale, diverse organic production.
The farm follows vegan cultivation methods, meaning that no manure, horn shavings or other inputs of animal origin are used. Instead, soil life, plant health and biodiversity are supported through regenerative, plant-based management practices that strengthen the natural balance of the agro-ecosystem.
Production & Distribution
Lincelam grows more than 50 different vegetables and herbs on approximately 3 hectares of organically managed land. Produce is marketed locally through:
Weekly farmers’ markets in West Flanders
Direct sales via the farm and local pick-up points
Online ordering with regional delivery options
The farm also cooperates with other organic producers to offer customers a broad and seasonal selection of plant-based food.
Community & Outreach
Bert Samyn actively engages with consumers and interested visitors, sharing practical experience and insights into vegan organic farming. Through direct marketing and public presence, Lincelam demonstrates that high-quality, diverse food production is possible without animal inputs — contributing to a broader transition towards ethical and sustainable agriculture.
