zzw — zeit zu wenden GARDEN (time to turn) — Bio-cyclic Vegan Vegetable Cultivation
The company “zeit zu wenden” (zzw GmbH) — Time to Turn in Germany was founded in 2024 by Jutta and Axel Velhagen. Guided by the principle “Health for our soil,” the operation is dedicated to building living soils through the production of phytoponic culture substrates (PCS).
In 2025, the founders established a permaculture and agroforestry garden — the zzw GARDEN — in Darmstadt-Eberstadt (Hesse) in order to refine their substrate through biocyclic vegan vegetable cultivation. This refinement process creates Biocyclic Humus Soil in the long term, forming the foundation for fertile, humus-rich soils, healthy plants, stable ecosystems, and future-proof agriculture.
In the zzw GARDEN, only the operation’s own growing substrate is used for vegetable production. The biocyclic vegan guidelines provide the framework for the entire cultivation process — from soil preparation and crop management to harvest — ensuring that farming is carried out consistently without animal husbandry, animal-based fertilisers, or any other animal-derived inputs.

The zzw GARDEN is developed in close partnership with the community-supported agriculture project SoLaWi “Pawpaw Ranch” (Biohof Müller) in Eberstadt. This collaboration brings together innovative soil-building methods and the expertise of an experienced organic vegetable grower, ensuring thoughtful planning, careful cultivation, and successful marketing of the harvest.
The garden is currently in preparation for biocyclic vegan certification, reflecting its commitment to the highest standards of regenerative, animal-free agriculture.
With the shared vision of zzw GmbH and the zzw GARDEN, ecological responsibility, regional circular systems, and pioneering soil regeneration concepts are united. Together, they are helping shape the future of biocyclic vegan farming in Germany — cultivating fertile soils, resilient ecosystems, and truly sustainable food production.
