BioSun Ltd & A&A To Arsos Ltd
BioSun Ltd is one of the pioneering forces behind the development of the organic market in Cyprus. What began as a small-scale conversion of family farmland has grown into a vertically integrated enterprise combining biocyclic vegan agriculture, organic trade, and consumer education.
Since the early 2000s, agricultural land around the mountain village of Arsos, at the foothills of the Troodos Mountains, has been systematically converted to organic cultivation. Today, around 15 hectares are managed according to biocyclic vegan principles under A&A To Arsos Ltd, producing fruits and vegetables adapted to local conditions and Mediterranean biodiversity.
At the same time, BioSun Ltd evolved into a key player in the Cypriot organic sector. From an initial natural food store in Limassol, the company developed into a nationwide wholesaler and retailer of organic products, shaping supply chains and consumer awareness across the island. BioSun now operates four organic supermarkets (two in Nicosia, two in Limassol), with further locations planned, and also runs cafés that combine organic food culture with everyday life.
With the adoption of the Biocyclic Vegan Standard, BioSun strengthened its commitment to stock-free organic agriculture. The company is a member of the Panhellenic Biocyclic Vegan Network and supports the marketing and export of Cypriot biocyclic vegan produce through direct sales platforms and producer networks, opening up new income opportunities for farmers on the island.
A new milestone is the establishment of a licensed phytoponic composting facility in Limassol. This initiative enables the local production of biocyclic humus soil in Cyprus and forms the basis for advisory services for farms and processing units connected to the emerging terra plena Hub Limassol.
Yiannis Makryannis – The Bio Sun Founder
Yiannis Makriyiannis did not originally set out to become a farmer. He studied business administration and tax consultancy in Thessaloniki and built a successful career in ERP software systems. Yet his deep connection to nature, shaped by his childhood in the mountain village of Arsos with its diverse small-scale agriculture, never left him.
Early on, he became aware of the consequences of replacing natural processes with artificial inputs and shortcuts. This insight gradually led him to seek new paths—ones that respect ecological cycles and reconnect agriculture with its natural foundations.
From the year 2000 onwards, Yiannis began acquiring and converting land to organic cultivation alongside his family’s fields. He soon realized that agricultural transformation cannot succeed without involving consumers as an active force. This conviction led him to take over a small organic shop in Nicosia, combining his own farm produce with selected organic products from abroad. The idea proved successful and laid the foundation for what would become BioSun Ltd.
Throughout this development, his wife Olympia played a central role. With her warmth, professionalism, and deep understanding of nutrition, shopping at “All Organic” became not just a purchase, but an experience that included personal advice and trust.
Inspired by the biocyclic idea and personal exchanges with Dr. Johannes Eisenbach, Yiannis committed fully to biocyclic vegan agriculture. After attending training courses on phytoponic composting and biocyclic humus soil refinement at the Biocyclic Park in Kalamata (Greece), he initiated the construction of Cyprus’s first licensed phytoponic composting facility.
Today, supported by his children, Galateia and Ilias, Yiannis Makryiannis continues to work toward closing nutrient cycles, strengthening regional value chains, and establishing biocyclic vegan agriculture as a viable and future-oriented model for Cyprus and the wider Mediterranean region.
